Kenneth Anderson is a nationally certified counselor with over thirty years of experience in the mental health profession. He is a graduate of Oakwood University (B.A., Psychology, and Alabama A&M University (M.S., Clinical Psychology, 1990). On January 25, 2013, he was appointed Multicultural Affairs Officer for the City of Huntsville by Mayor Tommy Battle after spending 16 years at Calhoun Community College, most recently as Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences. In this position, Mr. Anderson acts as a liaison between the city and the community on multicultural issues, programs and activities that include citywide projects that strengthen organizational systems that support a multicultural workforce; assessing community needs in the context of multiculturalism; providing technical support and advice to the Human Relations Commission, Hispanic/Latino Advisory Council, neighborhood associations, and community watch groups; encouraging understanding and promoting social justice among diverse groups; and representing the Mayor at various functions. The job began on Monday, April 29, 2013.
In 2018, Kenneth launched Leadership Empowerment Enterprise, a 501©(3) focusing on leadership development, executive coaching, mentor training and philanthropy. As Executive Director, he provides strategic initiatives to insure that effective legacies are established for future generations. Kenneth is also President of Maximum Life Enhancement, a business management and educational consulting firm specializing in employee development and life skills training. He speaks nationally at conferences, schools, churches, and other venues. Since beginning Maximum Life Enhancement, Inc. in 1994, Kenneth has provided training and inspiration to thousands of customers who wanted to improve the quality of their personal and professional experiences. Participants walk away with proven strategies for personal and professional growth, and success is assured.
Since 1990, Kenneth has been the host/producer of a live, weekly radio talk show called "2nd Chance" broadcast every Sunday on WJOU Praise 90.1 FM, Oakwood University's radio station, at 2pm CST in Huntsville. The show celebrated 20 years of broadcasting in October 2010 and can be heard every Sunday at 2 pm CST at www.wjou.org or 90.1 FM (locally). In conjunction with the show's 20th anniversary, Kenneth established the Jack & Annie Anderson 2nd Chance Endowed Scholarship at Calhoun Community College for students who have overcome adversity in their life and desire a second chance to earn a degree or certificate. The scholarship is named in memory of his parents in honor of their lifelong commitment to education and is held by the Calhoun Foundation at the College. The first scholarship was awarded in the spring of 2014.
In 2013, Kenneth launched the "25" Scholarship at Oakwood University. "25" represents a monthly commitment of $25 to a scholarship fund that will grow over time through the support of others who want to support a student's educational dreams. In 2015, he established the ‘212 Community Service Scholarship at Oakwood. This scholarship is designated for a psychology major who is engaged in community service while pursuing a degree.
Kenneth is a past Chairman of the United Way of Madison County, Interfaith Mission Service’s Racial Harmony Coalition and is a former member of the City of Huntsville’s Human Relations Commission. He is community bridge builder and is committed to the work of creating alliances across matters of ethnicity, faith, culture, gender, class, etc. Kenneth has written as a Community Columnist for the Huntsville Times and received numerous awards and recognitions for over two decades of community service. He has professional affiliations with the Huntsville Rotary Club, National Board of Certified Counselors, 100 Black Men of America- Greater Huntsville Chapter, and American Psychological Association.
